Hubbards Hill Bridge
Weald Parish Council has received the communication below from National Highways.
As far as the council knows, Hubbards Hill residents have not been informed of whether or not they will be able to access their property during the works. Nor is it clear whether Network Rail, which is still carrying out repairs to the tunnel, or the bus companies have been made aware of the situation. As a result, it is not yet possible to advise on contingency plans.
The council will press for answers.
A21 Hubbards Hill bridge improvement work
Monday 11 September to Monday 27 November 2023
National Highways operates, maintains and improves England’s motorways and major A-roads. This email is to let you know we will shortly be carrying out essential renewal and improvement work to the bridge on Hubbards Hill that runs over the A21.
The work will include replacing expansion joints, waterproofing and resurfacing to ensure the bridge is safe and useable for years to come. We’ll be carrying out the improvements under a mix of full closures, and single lane running with temporary traffic lights. The work will take place during the day to keep noise impact to a minimum.
We’ll make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum. We always aim to work to the programme, however unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions may mean changes. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Traffic management
Most of the work will take place under a full closure, however there will be weeks where we’re able to open the road with a single lane running and 24-hour temporary traffic lights.
We’re unable to confirm the weeks we’ll be able to partially open the road until we’ve started the work, so please keep an eye on our webpage which we’ll keep updated. Head to nationalhighways.co.uk/se-maintenance and look for ‘A21 Hubbards Hill’.
Diversion
Traffic will be diverted via Glebe road, Morleys road, A225 Riverhill, Tonbridge road and Weald road during the full closures.
If you would like further information about this work, please contact National Highways Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 open 24/7, who will direct your enquiry to the most appropriate person, email: info@nationalhighways.co.uk or follow us on X @HighwaysSEAST
